Appeal over greenbelt homes in Guildford

Proposals to build new houses on greenbelt land in the Guildford area will be assessed by an appeal hearing this month, it has been announced.

Applicant John Gunner wishes to demolish the former commercial buildings which currently occupy the Sunnyside site in Aldershot Road, Worplesdon, in order to build new homes, the Surrey Advertiser reports.

Previous applications to build in the area have been rejected by the council due to concerns over the potential impact on the greenbelt, although a report from Robert Shaw Planning seems to suggest that the latest proposals will meet the environmental criteria.

"This application provides a real opportunity of making good use of a troublesome site that can deliver real and significant environmental improvements to those who live nearby," the report states.

Consisting of 12 apartments and 33 houses with garages and parking, the development will feature a certain number of "affordable" properties.

The Greenoak Housing Association was recently given a national award for providing eco-friendly new homes in Guildford.

Householders in the area may find self storage a useful addition to their homes.
